6 tips to improve listings.
There are many small ways every day that you can practice active listening and improve your listening skills - at work or at home. Try the following challenges shared by Ralph and Kathy, and see what a difference they can make:
Repeat or contradict what you just heard
When you listen actively, you periodically check with the speaker so that you can understand. When you hear the speaker say, it creates an opportunity for them to know that you are on target, or that you have misunderstood what they were saying.
Set yourself up for success
Re-read the meeting agenda beforehand and make sure you are ready. Have your notes ready and put some questions down that you already have going on, this way you can focus more from the start.
De-clutter your location and screen
When you are replacing your concerns and investigators in your brain, it is very difficult to talk. Start with your actual physical location. Is your desk full of clutter? If so, you may notice it during a conversation or while writing an e-mail and be more easily isolated.
When it comes to your digital workspace, close additional tabs and windows if you need your computer or tablet to take notes or share a presentation, if not, turn off the screen and turn your phone Keep away
make eye contact
Where does your attention go when you talk to someone? Are you constantly checking your phone or your watch? Are you distracted by people walking? Make it a point to have meaningful eye contact with your chat partner.
Check a posture
The way we sit can affect our emotional state and our level of attention. If you are listening with your body, it is easy to listen with your ears.
Sit mind for a minute
Just 60 seconds. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Stretch something - anything to grab your attention in the present moment. The more you practice being mindful, the easier it will be for you to come to mind during your day during meetings and conversations.
